The application Step by Step

1. Support

TECNOCOAT must be applied on a consistent substrate with a resistance to compression (minimum 25N/mm2) and a minimum pull strength of 1.5 N/mm2.  In addition, the substrate must be clean, dry and free of contaminants such as dust, oil, grease, paint and other surface elements.  When in doubt, we recommend doing a test application to the substrate.

2. Preparation of the support

For best results you should repair the surface by filling voids, holes and leveling the surface. TECNOPOL offers a wide range of products for performing these operations. For concrete substrates, mechanical preparation is also necessary, raising the grout surface to achieve an open pore textured surface.  We also recommend removing weak concrete and surface defects.

3. Priming

In most cases it is necessary to use a two component polyurethane primer such as  TECNOCOAT PRIMER-PU for better adhesion and prevent the formation of pin holes.  It should be applied by brush, roller or airless and if necessary, sprinkle lightly with quartz sand from 0.3 to 0.8 mm.  

It is essential that surfaces are structurally sound, as well as completely cured for 28 days (at 200psi or greater in accordance with ASTM D4541.)  There must be low transmission of vapor moisture (less than 3lb/24h/1000ft/2 RMA testing method.)

4. Tecnocoat P-2049 Membrane

Apply evenly with equipment at high temperature and high pressure  (GRACO Reactor E- XP2) . The equipment must be capable of providing pressure of 2.700 psi at a temperature of 70 ºC for the length of the required hose.

5. Finishing layer (optional)

After applying TECNOCOAT P-2049 , and before 48 hours have passed, we recommend the application of one or two layers of DESMOPOL ADY-2C aliphatic polyurethane finish to guarantee the stability of the desired color. DESMOPOL ADY-2C is also necessary in surfaces that need resistance to the wheeled traffic as well as for the waterproofing of swimming pools and other surfaces that require chemical resistance.
